And even though this is funny…

Well, guys, I’ve got mixed feelings about today’s entry.

- It’s funny. Some great moments here. Definitely makes a good point about THINKING before you give a woman a gift.

But on the other hand:

- Yet another way men are shamed into submission and fear of women.

But I’ll let you decide on this one.

Thumbs up, or thumbs down?

Why?

I agree on what you said about being made to feel ashamed and fearing women. I mean usless she's your wife, you don't want try to buy her affections. Even if she is your wife, it's totally different in that situation. But also when you give a woman a gift, hopefully we know a little more about her other than her name and boob size. I mean you want to know enough about her so we can make GOOD choices about what to get her and not just go out and get her all willy-nilly.

Yes, a vaccuum or an exerciser are terribly thoughtless because of the meaning behind them in the scenarios shown. However, in a balanced relationship, the person receiving the gift ought to be more thoughtful as well. Obviously, the vaccuum-giving husband THOUGHT he was being helpful. In a real relationship, that ought to weigh heavily FOR the husband.

Many women set their men up for failure and themselves up for serious disappointment by expecting their mates to read their minds. It's a childish romantic fantasy to imagine that "the perfect guy" will know EXACTLY "the perfect gift" for the many, many gift-giving opportunities in a year.

There's a lot more romance in two people communicating successfully and making decisions together then there is in unfulfilled and unrealistic expectations.
